- The male Scorpion Fly has scorpion-like tail, hence how it got its name.
- The Scorpion Fly has a reddish head with a long beak to go along with its black and yellow body.
- A male Scorpion Fly will woo a female with gift offerings of prey or by displaying his scorpion-like tail.
- The larvae both scavenge and pupate in the soil just below the surface.
- One main staple of the Scorpion Fly’s diet is to eat dead insects, often taking them from spider webs.
- The adult Scorpion Fly rarely flies great distances preferring to crawl on vegetation in damp, shaded places near water and along hedgerows instead.
